KIT: KLEMM- II Etching
Kit: KLEMM-II Etching consists of KLEMM stock solution and potassium disulfite (CAS No.: 16731-55-8). The product is used in metallography and scientific laboratories as a color etchant for copper and copper alloys with soft solders. It is particularly suitable for studies of brazed and welded joints with brass, the epsilon phase, segregations, diffusion zones in solders, and alpha and beta brass.
The chemical components are KLEMM stock solution, the exact composition of which is not disclosed, and potassium disulfite (K2S2O5), which serves as a reducing agent. Chemical reactions produce a coloration on the surface of the materials under study, revealing different phases and structures. The interactions between the chemical substances and the alloy constituents play a crucial role.
Application of the Kit: KLEMM-II etching can produce different results depending on the etching time, which can vary from seconds to minutes depending on the material. Wet etching provides effective staining for the desired metallographic studies. Once the solution is prepared, it is usually stable for 1-2 days.
