Trichloroacetic Acid 20 %
Trichloroacetic acid 25% is a product mainly used in medical diagnostics, histology and scientific laboratories. It consists of an aqueous solution of trichloroacetic acid (CCl3COOH, CAS number 76-03-9).
One of the possible applications of the product is the fixation of tissue samples in histology. In this process, chemical bonds are established between the proteins in the cells, which leads to the stabilization of the samples. It is also established in medical diagnostics for protein precipitation in biochemical tests. Thus, unwanted proteins can be removed and target proteins can be detected more easily. Another application is the decalcification of tissue samples.
When trichloroacetic acid 25% is used, a chemical reaction with proteins is observed in which precipitation of the proteins occurs. The acid leads to denaturation and coagulation of the proteins, which affects the test results.
The 25% solution is relatively highly concentrated and is usually diluted to lower concentrations for specific use.
