Picro-Sirius Red Solution 0.1 %
Picro-Sirius Red Solution 0.1% is a chemical reagent used in various scientific and technical fields. In particular, it is used in medical diagnostics, histology, and scientific laboratories. The solution consists of saturated aqueous picric acid and the dye Sirius Red F3B.
Chemically, picric acid or 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (C₆H₃N₃O₇) is an aromatic organic compound, while Sirius Red F3B (C.I. 35780, CAS No. 2610-10-8) is an azo dye. The color reaction is based on the affinity of Sirius Red F3B and picric acid for the proteins in the sample. The chemical properties thereby allow selective staining of collagen fibers and other proteins.
Different results can be obtained by using the Picro Sirius Red 0.1% solution, depending on the context in which it is used. In medical diagnostics and histology, it enables visualization and differentiation of collagen fibers, allowing for example visualization of fibrosis or sclerosis.
