PBS Buffer pH 7.2 with Potassium Azide (A)
PBS buffer pH 7.2 (isotonic with sodium azide) is a stable solution mainly used in cell culture, immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. Its isotonicity preserves the morphology and viability of cells, while the sodium azide it contains serves as a preservative.
Specially in cell culture and histology, PBS buffer is ideal for washing and suspending cells without disturbing osmotic conditions. Furthermore, it is widely used in immunoassays and Western blot applications, where it serves as a wash and dilution buffer.
Chemically, PBS buffer consists of a balanced salt solution that also contains sodium azide. This suppresses the growth of bacteria and fungi, which extends the shelf life of the solution. Sodium chloride and the phosphate salts together form a buffer system that keeps the pH value stable.
