Opal Blue - Phloxin-Rhodamine after BRESSLAU
BRESSLAU opal blue-phloxinrhodamine is used as a specialized staining solution in biological research, especially for the staining of ciliates. It consists of a mixture of aniline blue, phloxin B and rhodamine B dissolved in distilled water. This combination of dyes makes it suitable for highlighting different structures within ciliates. During the staining process, the dyes selectively bind to specific components of the ciliates based on chemical interactions and affinities. Aniline blue binds to cellular components containing acidic groups, while phloxin B and rhodamine B highlight more basic structures. This results in a differentiated color image that allows detailed study of ciliate structure. For example, the morphology of the cell, the distribution of organelles or the localization of specific proteins can be analyzed. Furthermore, the solution can be used to differentiate between different ciliate species.
