Oil red O (ethanol)
This solution with Oil Red O is primarily used for staining. It makes lipophilic structures in histological specimens visible and, due to its intense red, allows easy differentiation of fatty acids, neutral oils and waxes.
The product is particularly suitable due to its ability to produce clear and high-contrast colors. The use of ethanol and 1-propanol as solvents allows deep penetration into various tissue types and ensures uniform coloration.
Oil Red O is an azoic dye. The azoic group (-N=N-) gives it an intense color. When the dye encounters lipophilic structures, it binds to them, making them visible.
Once applied to the specimen, the dye binds selectively to lipophilic components. These can then be viewed microscopically. Thus, the solution provides detailed insights into the distribution of lipids in biological samples.
