LUGOL’s Iodine with Lactic Acid
LUGOL solution with lactic acid is a specialized laboratory chemical used as an essential component in staining kits, especially in the NEISSER staining kit according to GIN. It consists of distilled water, potassium iodide, iodine and lactic acid.
In microbiology, it is mainly used for identification and differentiation of bacteria and fungi. It allows visualization of structures that would otherwise elude microscopic view.
The iodine component of the solution reacts with starch in cells to produce a blue-black coloration. Lactic acid serves as a pH regulator and enables an optimized iodine-starch reaction.
By using this solution, an accurate analysis of cell structures can be performed.
