Kit: Developer Solution, buffered for WARTHIN-STARRY Silver Staining
The 2% silver nitrate solution, buffered, is a solution of silver nitrate in acetate buffer (pH 3.6). It is an important component of the developer kit, buffered, for Warthin-Starry silver staining, which is used in various Warthin-Starry silver plating techniques.
Applications of this solution are mainly in microscopy, especially in Warthin-Starry staining, which is used to identify spirochaetes, Bacillus piliformis and other microbial organisms. Its special suitability allows for improved staining efficiency and reproducible results.
The chemical mode of operation of the buffered silver nitrate solution is based on the reduction of silver ions (Ag+) to elemental silver (Ag) in the presence of cellular structures. The staining is produced by the reaction between elemental silver and these structures. The acetate buffer in the solution ensures a uniform reaction and an optimal result by stabilizing the pH and redox potential of the silver ions.
Compared to similar products, the buffered 2% silver nitrate solution offers advantages in terms of stability and reproducibility of staining. By using acetate buffer, the pH and redox potential of the silver ions are optimally adjusted, resulting in higher staining efficiency and reliability. The increased concentration of silver nitrate in the 2% solution can provide improved sensitivity and staining intensity in certain applications, such as Warthin-Starry silver staining.
