Potassium Ferrocyanide (III) 5 % (Red Prussiate)

Potassium ferricyanide(III) 5%, also known as red blood liquor salt, is a solution used in histology and other scientific applications. This solution is a chemical compound containing iron and cyanide, and is commonly used to form Prussian Blue (Berlin Blue), a dye used in histology and histochemistry to stain iron deposits.

In histology, potassium ferricyanide(III) 5% is used in combination with an acidic solution such as hydrochloric acid to produce the dye Prussian Blue. Prussian Blue selectively binds to ferric ions, which may be present in tissues as hemoglobin degradation products (hemosiderin). This method is commonly used to identify and examine iron deposition in cases of hemochromatosis, hemoglobinopathies, or other diseases associated with increased iron deposition in tissues.

Instructions / Protocol / Recommendations

Verwendung:

Potassium ferricyanide(III) 5% (red blood liquor salt) in combination with deionized water is a solution mainly used in in vitro diagnostics for the identification and examination of iron deposits in tissues. By using it in histology and histochemistry to produce Prussian Blue (Berlin Blue), a dye that selectively binds to ferric ions, iron deposits can be detected in cases of hemochromatosis, hemoglobinopathies, or other iron-related diseases.

Prinzip:

Potassium hexacyanoferrate(III), also known as red blood liquor salt, is an important reagent in in vitro diagnostics. When it comes into contact with tissue or cellular structures, complexation reactions can occur in which metal ions such as iron or calcium from the biological samples form a stable coordination with the cyanide groups of the reagent. This leads to the generation of colored, easily recognizable and stable compounds. These properties facilitate the visualization and differentiation of various cell or tissue structures, which are crucial for reliable analysis and diagnosis.
