Potassium Ferrocyanide (II) 10 % (Yellow Prussiate)
Potassium ferricyanide(II) 10 %, also known as blood liquor salt yellow, is a valuable reagent in in vitro diagnostics. Due to its strong reducing properties, it is widely used in clinical chemistry, especially for the detection of iron-containing compounds, such as hemoglobin. In the Berlin Blue reaction, a mixture of potassium ferricyanide(II) and hydrochloric acid is used. In this process, iron(III) is reduced to iron(II), producing the characteristic Prussian blue complex. This intense blue dye can be detected photometrically and used to quantify the original iron(III) ions. The concentration of the solution is 10%, based on the amount of 111.11 g of potassium ferricyanide(II) in 1000 ml of water. This corresponds to a molarity of about 0.4 mol/l.
