Glutraldehyde Formaldehyde Cacodylate Buffer for EM
Glutaraldehyde-formaldehyde-cacodylate buffer is a fixing solution for electron microscopy used in in vitro diagnostics, histology and scientific laboratories. This product consists of paraformaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, sodium cacodylate trihydrate and D(+)-sucrose in an aqueous solution.
The product is suitable as a fixative to preserve cell structures and proteins in histological and biological specimens. In scientific laboratories the product is mainly used in electron microscopy to study cellular interactions and structures with high resolution.
During the fixation process, the aldehyde components, especially glutaraldehyde and formaldehyde, react with cell proteins to form crosslinks that stabilize and preserve the sample. The cacodylate provides buffering and maintains the pH, while the sucrose contributes to the osmolarity of the solution.
