Formaline 4 %, unbuffered
Formalin 4%, unbuffered, is an aqueous solution of 4% formaldehyde used as a fixative in histology and pathology. Formaldehyde is a strong aldehyde that forms covalent bonds with proteins and nucleic acids in tissue specimens. This leads to stabilization of cellular structures and prevents cell decay and autolysis that can occur during processing of tissue samples.
Unbuffered formalin solution is often injected directly into tissue samples or used as a bath in which samples are placed for a period of time. Fixation with formalin preserves cellular morphology and allows detailed examination of cell structures and tissue architecture. However, unbuffered formalin can result in a more acidic environment, which can lead to some distortion of cellular structures and staining characteristics. Therefore, buffered formalin is preferred in many cases, which stabilizes the pH by the addition of buffer solutions such as phosphate buffer, thus ensuring better fixation of the samples.

Instructions / Protocol / Recommendations
Verwendung:
