Formaldehyde fixative solution for bulbi is used for fixation and preparation of ocular tissue, especially the bulbus oculi. Formaldehyde and glutardialdehyde, two potent aldehydes, induce cross-linking of proteins and thus stabilize tissue structure. Paraformaldehyde, a polymer of formaldehyde, decomposes to formaldehyde under acidic conditions, providing additional fixation capacity. The Sörensen buffer contained in this solution, a combination of two stock solutions, regulates the pH and thus ensures optimal fixation conditions. After application of this fixation solution, the ocular tissue remains morphologically unchanged and is ready for further examination, such as histological or microscopic analysis. In addition, the use of this solution allows the tissue to be stored for a longer period of time without affecting its structure.
