Staining Kit: KINYOUN-GABETT’s Staining

The staining kit: KINYOUN-GABETT staining is an essential kit for the detection of mycobacteria, especially Mycobacterium tuberculosis, in laboratory environments. It consists of Kinyoun solution, hydrochloric acid alcohol and Gabbet solution. In the first step, the basic fuchsin in the Kinyoun solution binds to the lipophilic cell walls of the mycobacteria and stains them intensely red. Hydrochloric acid alcohol then serves as a decolorizing agent, removing the dye from non-acid-fast cells while the mycobacteria retain their staining. The final counterstaining with the methylene blue solution stains the remaining cells and tissues blue. This specific staining reveals mycobacteria as pink rods on a blue background, allowing accurate microscopic diagnosis of tuberculosis and other mycobacteria-related diseases.
