Decalcifying solution (formic acid, aqueous)
Decalcification solution consisting of aqua dist./VE water, formic acid and hydrochloric acid is used in medical diagnostics, histology and scientific laboratories. In particular, it is suitable for decalcification of tissue specimens in histology and cytology.
The chemical components of this solution are aqua dist./VE water (CAS No.: 7732-18-5), formic acid 98-100% (CAS No.: 64-18-6) and hydrochloric acid (CAS No.: 7647-01-0). Formic acid has the chemical formula CH2O2, while hydrochloric acid has the formula HCl.
The chemical reactions involving the product are based on the solubility of calcium salts in formic acid and hydrochloric acid. In this process, the formic acid forms a calcium formate complex, while the hydrochloric acid converts the calcium into calcium chloride. These processes effectively remove excess calcium from the specimens being decalcified.
Possible results that may result from the use of the product include decalcification of bone tissue, allowing histological examination of soft tissue. The degradation of calcium compounds, especially those associated with calcification or bone formation, contributes to the elucidation of structures and the diagnosis of diseases.
