Chlorzinc iodine solution, conc.
Chlorzinc iodine solution, conc., is mainly used in chemical analysis, especially for the detection of cellulose. Zinc chloride and potassium iodide act synergistically, with the concentrated solution having the ability to weaken cellulose molecules and make them more amenable to detection. The high iodine content causes a distinct color change in the presence of cellulose, resulting in a reliable and accurate detection method. Physically, an interaction occurs between the contained chemicals and the cellulose, disrupting the polarity of the cellulose molecules, allowing iodine to bind more easily. This leads to a characteristic blue-black discoloration in the presence of cellulose, an unmistakable indication. The high reaction rate and distinct color change make this solution an indispensable tool in any laboratory that works with cellulose or needs to detect it.
