Alcian Blue 1 %, alcoholic is a single solution primarily used in histology and scientific laboratories. The solution consists of ethanol 99.0 % denatured (CAS No.: 64-17-5) and alcian blue 8GS (C.I.: 74240) (CAS No.: 33864-99-2). It is a component of the SAB (Sulfated Alcian Blue) solution staining kit and is used as an in vitro diagnostic agent.

The main use of this solution is in the staining of acidic polysaccharides and proteoglycans in tissue sections. Alcian Blue 8GS, a cationic dye, selectively binds to acidic polysaccharides and proteoglycans through electrostatic interactions. The chemical formula of Alcian blue 8GS is C56H68Cl4CuN16S4. Ethanol 99.0% denatured serves as a solvent and stabilizer for Alcian Blue 8GS.

The chemical reactions and properties of the product are based on the ability of Alcian Blue 8GS to bind selectively to acidic polysaccharides and proteoglycans, allowing differential staining of tissue sections. Through this application, the distribution and amount of these molecules in tissue samples can be analyzed.

Verwendung:

Alcianblau wird in der Histologie verwendet, um sauro Mukosubstanzen (saure Mucine und sulfatierte Glykosaminoglykane wie Hyaluronsäure oder Chondroitinsulfat) bei niedrigem pH-Wert (1,0 bis 2,5) selektiv anzufärben. Je nach pH-Wert der Färbelösung können spezifische Mucine nachgewiesen werden. Eine weitere Methode der selektiven Darstellung, ist die Variation der Elektrolytkonzentration. Mit steigender Ionenstärke wird eine Färbung mit Alcianblau verhindert, wodurch eine Differenzierung unterschiedlich stark sulfatierter Mucopolysaccharide sowie Heparine, Heparinsulfate und Keratinsulfate möglich ist.
