Xylene - Peanut Oil
Xylene peanut oil is a solution consisting of a 1:1 mixture of xylene and peanut oil. Both components are present in approximately equal amounts, resulting in no dominant solvent.
Applications for this solution are found particularly in histology and pathology, where it is used as an embedding medium and as a deparaffinizing agent. Xylene peanut oil can be used to remove kerosene from tissue sections and to prepare histological specimens for subsequent staining.
The special suitability of this solution lies in the combination of the solvent properties of xylene and the lubricating properties of peanut oil. Xylene is a strong solvent capable of effectively removing kerosene, while peanut oil serves as a lubricant and emollient to protect tissues during dewaxing and dyeing.
The advantages of xylene peanut oil over similar products are its improved compatibility for delicate tissues and reduction of damage that can be caused by aggressive solvents. The blend of xylene and peanut oil provides a gentler alternative to pure xylene and allows effective yet gentle dewaxing and staining of histological specimens.
