Nitric Acid Decalcification 6 %
Ready-to-use solution nitric acid 6% as decalcification solution in histology and/or cytology.
The 6% nitric acid decalcifying solution is used in histology and pathology to decalcify bone tissue. Bones are rich in calcium, especially in the form of hydroxyapatite, which is the main component of the bone matrix. Decalcification is necessary to prepare bone tissue for the preparation of histological sections.
The 6% nitric acid decalcifying solution enables rapid and effective decalcification of bone tissue by dissolving calcium ions from the bone matrix, thus softening the tissue. After decalcification, the bone tissue can be embedded in the usual manner, sectioned and then stained to visualize the different structures and cell types.
It is important to monitor progress during the decalcification process to avoid over-decalcification and possible damage to the tissue. After decalcification is complete, the tissue should be thoroughly rinsed and neutralized before further processing.
Another application of 6% nitric acid is in metallography as a macroetching agent for ferritic welded joints (steel and cast steel), as a deep etchant, for post-probing cracks, and for grain area etching on Cu alloys in materialography.
