SAFELINE Hematoxylin is a laboratory reagent specifically designed for histology and medical diagnostics, meeting safety requirements for home users and schools. It enables staining of cell nuclei by binding to basic components and staining them blue-violet. This staining aids in the visual differentiation of these structures under the microscope.

The solution is composed of hematoxylin (C.I.: 75290, CAS No.: 517-28-2, 475-25-2), denatured ethanol (CAS No.: 64-17-5) and sodium iodate (CAS No.: 7681-55-2) in distilled water. The sodium iodate serves to oxidize hematoxylin to hematein, which binds to the basic components in the tissue.

In combination with ferric chloride solutions, SAFELINE Hematoxylin forms ferric hematoxylin, a more intense stain that allows for detailed histological studies.
