Phosphate Buffer pH 6.9
Phosphate Buffer pH 6.9 is widely used in laboratories, especially in biochemistry and molecular biology, where pH balance is crucial for accurate experimental results. Its special suitability is shown in its use as a buffer in biological systems, as it maintains enzymatic activity in many biochemical reactions. The buffer consists of di-sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate dissolved in highly pure water. The sodium azide contained serves as a preservative. The pH value of 6.9, which is achieved by mixing acid and base, remains largely constant even when acids or bases are added. This stability effect is due to the buffering capacity of the phosphate buffer, which effectively controls the hydrogen ion concentration in the system. Therefore, this buffer is often used in scientific applications where a stable and neutral pH environment is necessary, such as in medical diagnostics and life sciences.
