Phenol 1 %, aqueous

Phenol 1 %, aqueous is a laboratory reagent solution mainly used for the extraction of nucleic acids and proteins from biological samples. Due to its high affinity for water-insoluble organic compounds, it enables the separation of these molecules from water-soluble components after phase separation and centrifugation. The isolated molecules can then be used for further analysis or experimental purposes. The high efficiency of this solution in extraction is due to the ability of phenol to form hydrophobic interactions.

Phenol is an aromatic alcohol that binds to proteins and nucleic acids and thus can denature or modify various biological molecules. When used in diagnostics, this binding allows for better visualization of certain structures under the microscope. Denaturation of proteins and nucleic acids affects cell structure and facilitates fixation or staining of cells and tissues, which is critical for microscopic analysis and further diagnostic testing.

Instructions / Protocol / Recommendations

Verwendung:

Phenol 1 %, aqueous is a laboratory reagent mainly used for the extraction of nucleic acids and proteins from biological samples. The high affinity of phenol for water-insoluble organic molecules enables the separation of these substances from the water-soluble components in the sample. By mixing with the sample and subsequent centrifugation, the desired molecules can be isolated and used for further analysis or experimental purposes. The efficiency of this solution in extracting organic molecules is high despite the low phenol content, as phenol supports hydrophobic interactions.

Prinzip:

Phenol 1% aqueous solution consists of phenol and ultrapure water, which is used as a fixative in in vitro diagnostics. Phenol binds with protein structures in tissue and cell structures, resulting in protein denaturation and preservation of the structures. This fixation stabilizes the tissue and cell structures and allows detailed examination and long-term storage without significant structural changes. In this process, ultrapure water plays a role as a solvent to achieve the desired concentration of phenol and ensure homogeneous distribution in the sample. Together, these components enable effective application in in vitro diagnostics.
