Orcin solution
Orcin solution is a valuable reagent for microbiological, biotechnological and biochemical applications. It consists of orcin dissolved in fuming hydrochloric acid to which ferric chloride is added. The reaction of orcin with phenols and polyphenols, especially with compounds such as lignin, provides a distinct color change from yellow to blue or green, allowing easy and efficient qualitative analysis. In microbiology, Orcin solution finds application in the study of cell wall composition of bacteria. It also has relevance in histological staining to highlight specific structures and substances in tissue samples. Its chemical properties allow high sensitivity and specificity in the detection of phenolic compounds. In addition, its rapid and easy application can improve efficiency in diagnostic and research laboratories. In biotechnological research, it is a useful tool for biomass characterization and the study of degradation processes.
