Macro Etching Agent after FRY

The FRY macroetching agent is a specially formulated chemical product used primarily in metallography. Its main components are aqua bidest, fuming hydrochloric acid and copper dichloride. The etchant is used to study lines of force action and flow figures in low carbon nitrogen steels and Thomas steels. Here, the hydrochloric acid reacts with the metal as a strong acid medium, while the copper dichloride acts as an oxidizing etchant. The etching reaction takes place at elevated temperatures between 120 and 200 degrees Celsius and typically lasts 5 to 20 minutes. After etching, the treated sample is again treated with hydrochloric acid, rinsed with water and finally neutralized with an ammonia solution. The application of FRY macroetching allows a clear visualization of the microstructural characteristics of the steels under investigation, thus contributing significantly to the improvement of scientific analyses and technical tests.
