Hematoxylin after MASSON
Masson's hematoxylin is a staining solution used in histology and pathology. It is a modified hematoxylin solution developed specifically for Masson trichrome staining, a staining technique used to study collagen fibers and other tissue structures.
Masson's hematoxylin solution stains cell nuclei and chromatin blue-black. The solution consists of hematoxylin extracted from the heartwood of the Brazilian logwood tree (Haematoxylum campechianum) and is mixed with aluminum salts, such as aluminum ammonium sulfate or aluminum potassium sulfate, to produce a more stable stain.
In Masson trichrome staining, Masson's hematoxylin is used to visualize cell nuclei, while other dyes such as ponceau de xylidine (Masson B) and acid fuchsin (Masson A) are used to stain collagen fibers and other tissue structures. This combination of dyes allows detailed examination of cellular and tissue structures, especially in the context of connective tissue, muscle, and inflammatory responses.
