Formalin-DecalFix (glacial acetic acid)
Formalin-DecalFix (glacial acetic acid) is composed of aqua dist./VE water (CAS No.: 7732-18-5), formaldehyde ~37%, stabilized (CAS No.: 50-00-0 / 67-56-1) and acetic acid 99% (CAS No.: 64-19-7). It is used in medical diagnostics, histology and scientific laboratories to fix and decalcify tissue samples. The mixture of these ingredients provides the ability to fix and decalcify tissue specimens simultaneously.
Chemically, formaldehyde represents the formula CH2O and acetic acid represents the formula CH3COOH. When combined with distilled aqua, a solution is created that stabilizes the organic structures of the tissue and efficiently removes mineral deposits. A reaction is produced that preserves cellular morphology and facilitates subsequent microscopic examination. The use of this solution can contribute to a clear and differentiated visualization of tissue structures.
Main Uses: Fixation and decalcification.
