Staining Kit: GALLYAS’ Staining
The chemical mode of operation is based on various reactions that occur during the staining process. Periodic acid oxidizes aldehydes to carboxylic acids, facilitating silver staining. The silver iodide solution, in combination with other reagents, forms elemental silver that attaches to neurodegenerative structures. Acetic acid, gold chloride, and sodium thiosulfate serve as reducing agents, stabilizers, and fixatives, while nuclear red acts as a contrast dye.
The special suitability of this staining kit lies in the targeted visualization of neurodegenerative structures such as those found in Alzheimer's disease or other neuropathological conditions. The various components of the kit work synergistically together to provide precise, high-contrast staining of the tissue samples under investigation. By using this kit, specific questions in histology can be answered effectively and reliably.

Instructions / Protocol / Recommendations
Verwendung:
The staining kit for GALLYAS staining is used in in vitro diagnostics to visualize neurodegenerative changes in nervous tissue, especially Alzheimer plaques. Due to the chemical reactions of the contained solutions, specific structures, such as neurofibrillary tangles, are precisely visualized with high contrast. This enables effective and reliable histological examination of Alzheimer's disease or other neuropathological conditions.
Prinzip:
GALLYAS staining is a histological method used in in vitro diagnostics to visualize neuronal and glial cell structures. In this process, the tissue is first pretreated with periodic acid, which allows the formation of aldehyde groups. Subsequently, the alkaline silver iodide binds to these groups and is reduced by the developer solution, resulting in silver deposits. Acetic acid and gold chloride stabilize the coloration and improve contrasts. Sodium thiosulfate removes excess silver iodide, while nuclear red provides non-specific background staining as a counterpart. Overall, this staining allows detailed visualization of cell structures in tissue.
