Staining Kit: AFOG

The AFOG/SFOG staining kit according to Mallory & Cason is a trichrome stain used in in vitro diagnostics for the examination of tissue samples. This kit can be used to stain and differentiate collagenous fibers and reticular connective tissue (dark blue), acid mucosal substances (blue), erythrocytes (red-orange), muscle tissue (bright orange), protein deposits (red), and cell nuclei (black). This allows detailed visualization of tissue structures and facilitates the identification of different cell components for diagnostic purposes.

The AFOG/SFOG staining kit according to Mallory & Cason is based on a multi-step staining process that allows specific binding of the different components to tissue or cell structures. Weigert stock solutions A and B provide hematoxylin staining, which stains nucleic acids and cell nuclei black. Aniline blue, acid fuchsin and orange G form a color combination in which aniline blue stains collagen fibers blue, acid fuchsin pigments cytoplasmic structures red and orange G stains elastic fibers yellow-orange. Phosphomolybdic acid 1% is used as a mordant to enhance the binding of dyes to tissue structures and ensures accurate visualization of cell structures in in vitro diagnostics.
