Barbital Acetate Buffer II, pH 8.6 - 8.7
Barbital Acetate Buffer II, pH 8.6 - 8.7 consists of barbituric acid sodium salt and sodium acetate trihydrate dissolved in ultrapure water. The buffer is mainly used in biological and biochemical studies to maintain constant pH values in solutions, since many biological processes are strongly pH-dependent. The buffer capacity is optimal in the specified pH range and thus supports the stability of enzymes and proteins during analysis. When using this buffer, enzymatic reactions can be performed under stable pH conditions, resulting in reliable and reproducible results. Barbituric acid, a weak acid-base pair, reacts with sodium acetate, a strong acid-base pair, to form the buffer solution. The barbituric acid and sodium acetate interact to absorb or release excess protons, keeping the pH of the solution stable.
