Ammonia 15%, is used as a starting material for the synthesis of chemicals and as an analytical reagent for the detection and identification of ions, for the purification and etching of metals and for the detection of chlorine or formaldehyde.
The solution is called ammonia water, with the chemical formula NH4OH. The solution contains ammonia, a gas (NH3), dissolved in water. Ammonia water reacts alkaline and is able to remove protons from acids.
The chemical properties of this product allow various applications. When ammonia 15% is mixed with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), it can serve as a component of many etching mixtures for etching metals such as copper, silver or aluminum, as well as high-alloy steels. Furthermore, ammonia water can also be used as an additive to cleaning agents for neutralizing chlorine and formaldehyde. In engineering, it is used for cleaning galvanized steel.
